short TALK

IMG_1015
Casey and I both recently obtained new "athletic" shorts but since we've been running so much, we've
never really had the chance to try them out. As you may know, we run in bike shorts. I know, it's
confusing... BUT when you thighs rub together even the slightest (which almost always happens to
people who aren't stick people) you have to find a way to make it work. Bike shorts are amazing for
running. They don't ride up, ride down, or cause any problems. They are just like a second skin.
Anyways, a couple nights ago, when were trying out a new training program, we decided it would be a
good time to try to run in our new shorts. We thought... HEY we've been losing weight, maybe we can
actually run in running shorts! WRONG. IT. WAS. TERRIBLE!!! We were running hills and I'd get
half way up the hill and my shorts had ridden up into the shape of underwear. If I wanted to wear
underwear while running, I'd wear underwear. Now don't get me wrong, I love both of our shorts
dearly. Look at them up there all cute and neon. But these shorts may never see a running day ever
again. I think we will save these guys for strength training only.

Now if only we could find awesome bike shorts in amazing colors. All we ever find is black or a shade
of gray. BORING.

race DAY!

Ya'll we freakin' did it! We completed our Couch to 5k program and ran a 5k last Saturday. We were
able to run the whole thing, and we were thrilled. More to come on what we'll be doing in terms of
running and training. Let's just say that we aren't done with running. Going from struggling to run a
minute to being able to finish a 5k (running the entire time) was such a sense of accomplishment, but it
was hard. Really. Hard. There were times when we wanted to quit. We got rangry (running induced
anger). There may have been some tears. Dare I say it- maybe we don't hate running anymore. The
other day Savannah uttered the cursed words, "For a minute there I liked running." I told her to shut her
dirty mouth. Ha! We just might be runners after all. Enjoy the pictures from our victorious day!

These are some people from our church who were also running the race.

Post-race. Yes Savannah is really THAT red in the face. She's not dying... it's just something her face
does. She can't help it!

make THIS: iPOD HOLDER (FOR EXERCISING)

Photobucket
We saw this tutorial online where they created an iPod holder for exercising out of a t-shirt. We loved the idea but wanted to change some things to make it extra durable.

Photobucket
Cut a piece from the shirt that is 2 inches longer than the circumference of your arm. Mine was about 17 inches long and 14 inches wide.

Photobucket
Your piece should look like this.

Photobucket
Fold the piece in half "hamburger style".

Photobucket
And stitch the edges together on the one side.

Photobucket
Turn the material inside out.

Photobucket
It will look like this.

Photobucket
Fold in half "hot dog style".

Photobucket
Sew 4 lines across the layers. The two lines in the middle should be far enough apart to put an iPod (or whatever music device you use) between them. The two stitched lines on the outside will hold the material together.

Photobucket
Turn the holder over and stitch velcro on one end.

Photobucket
Stitch the opposite velcro on the backside of the holder. We put two lines horizontal so we could adjust the size.

Photobucket
When you velcro it all together it will look like this!

Photobucket
This is the front side where you insert your iPod.

Photobucket
With the iPod in it...
